Dickies BBQ Saved My Dinner

There’s a new barbeque place in town.  It is a franchise called Dickies and it is located in Summit Woods Shopping  Center .  Now I get why restaurants locate in shopping centers (because that’s where the people are) but it’s hard for me to say ‘let’s go out to eat at that great restaurant right between Payless Shoes and the Hallmark Card shop’ or whatever).  Although I do frequent Chilis and On the Border in that same shopping center.

But one day last week, my kids were all coming over for dinner.  I had to decide whether to go to Hy-Vee and spend $100 and then spend the entire day cooking, knowing that no matter what I made someone was not going to like it! Or, do something different.  So, no brainer, I decided to investigate the possibility of bringing in food.  We have done this before but there are so many of us when we order carry out from Houlihans or Chili’s we end up spending $15 each and the food is lukewarm by the time we get it home.

Someone suggested Dickie’s and I have got to say – it was great.  From the ordering online (easy and fast) to the pick up (easy and fast) to eating (easy and fast) this was the best decision I have made in a long time.  The barbeque was great – we had pulled pork, beef and turkey and three sides (which they double, for a limited time), baked beans, waffle fries and onion strings.  They box the food up when you arrive and cook the fries while you wait (about 3 minutes) so everything is fresh and hot.  For $49 we had enough food for 6-8, it was hot and good and I didn’t have to spend the day cooking and could actually enjoy the dinner.

Best of all, clean up was a breeze.  One trash bag later and I’m in front of the TV for some NCIS.

I give Dickies 5 out of 5 stars for convenience and price, but lets face it, a stripmall barbeque joint competing with all of the other famous KC barbeque places is really tough. (3 out of 5 stars for taste)
